Exam Details & Guidelines

Overview, pattern, eligibility, syllabus & grading

The West Bengal Public Service Commission (WBPSC) Clerkship Examination is one of the largest competitive recruitment drives in the state. Successful candidates are appointed to prestigious clerical and ministerial administrative roles as Lower Division Assistants (LDA) and Lower Division Clerks (LDC) in:

1. Secretariat Departments (Writers' Buildings, Nabanna, Bikash Bhavan)

2. Directorates of various state government departments

3. District Offices (DM Offices, SDO Offices, Sub-divisional Collectorates, and Regional Establishments)

The selection process is conducted in three sequential stages:

Part-I (Preliminary / Objective Examination): 100 Marks screening test.
Part-II (Descriptive Written Examination): Conventional subjective writing in English and an opted vernacular language (Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali).
Part-III (Computer Operation & Typing Speed): Qualifying typing speed assessment (20 wpm in English or 10 wpm in Bengali on computer).
